Step 2 - Use a CSUCI template to design your poster...

NOTE: If you fail to organize your poster using the following required guidlelines (in red), Library Digital Services will NOT print your poster.

We have designed CSUCI-branded poster templates for you to download and use right away. These templates have been created in Powerpoint, come in 7 colors and measure 36"h x 48"w. These templates contain the basic information found on most posters, but you should customize them based upon the requirements outlined by your instructor.

Simply click on the links below to save the template to your computer and begin designing your poster.(PPT)

Plagiarism and copyright
Plagiarism is a serious academic offense that carries the potential for expulsion. Be sure to properly cite all works referenced in your poster. This includes text as well as images; whether they come from a textbook or a site on the internet. To that end, NEVER copy and paste images directly into your Powerpoint poster template. Rather, create a folder for your poster with the following files:

  1. Powerpoint poster template (e.g. johndoe.ppt)
  2. Images you've downloaded and renamed (e.g. 01.jpg, 02.gif, 03.jpg)
  3. A Word document with URL's of the images saved
    (e.g. 01.jpg = http://biology.csuci.edu/ )

Once you have all images in one place, insert the image into your Powerpoint poster in this way:

  • From the main menu item: Click on INSERT, then go down to: PICTURE > FROM FILE
(then navigate to the folder where you saved all your images & choose the image you wish to insert)

Text & Graphics...
If you're having difficulty getting started or need help with the written portion of the poster, visit the CSUCI Writing Center online or on campus in the Bell Tower 1512 (next to the Java Hut)

As for images, the major rule of thumb is that you should NEVER scale an image larger than its' original size because it only makes it look worse. If you need a larger image, either find one or scan one in from a textbook. If you're still having difficulty getting started or need help with the graphical portion of the poster, contact me, Tom Emens, for an appointment at 805-437-8946. You can also stop by my office in the Bell Tower 1372 (next to the G.I.S. lab).
