eReserves FAQ
Materials That Can
be Placed in an Electronic Reserves
- Journals
Provide article citations
and the library will check to see
which articles are already available
online and will make the appropriate
links. Journals available through
online subscriptions will not require
copyright clearance.
The Library will scan
articles not available online. Provide complete source citation.
- Books
and Chapters of Books
There are thousands of books currently
available free on the Internet. Many of these titles can be
considered classic works of literature,
science, and history. The Library
will provide links for requested
book titles. There are also numerous
electronic books available (searchable on Quicksilver)
that could be incorporated into
eReserves. .
For more current books, the library
can scan in 1-2 chapters and/or and selected
pages that, in total, do not exceed
10% of the original source.
- Websites
Provide the library with a list
of sites and URL’s and the
library will make the links to web
sources.
- Other
Materials
Materials developed by
faculty members can be digitized.
This includes mathematical and chemical
formulas, homework problems and
solutions, class lecture notes,
line drawings, etc.
Student papers can also be digitized
and placed in eReserves, given
the student has granted permission.
Guidelines
for Faculty to Follow
Please submit
materials two weeks prior to the
start of the semester in order to
ensure immediate access by your
students.
The Electronic
Reserves Request Form must be filled
out and submitted with the materials
to the Library. Requests can be
submitted by printing
out our
PDF Version (PDF reader)) and delivering
the materials to the Library. Printed
copies of the form are also available
in the Library, which you may complete
when you deliver the materials.
- Submitting electronic
format:
Course materials will be
accepted in Microsoft Word, Excel,
or PowerPoint format. Please provide
a copy of the materials on a floppy,
zip-100, zip-250, CD/R, or CD/RW.
Electronic files may also be submitted
as an attachment to an e-mail to
CILibrary@csuci.edu or margaret.driscoll@csuci.edu.
Course materials created in other
applications can be submitted as
a hard copy (unbound/unstapled)
that can be scanned and converted
to Adobe PDF.
- Submitting paper format:
Paper documents, such as homework
solutions, should be provided as
8.5x 11inch sheets (unbound/unstapled)
with at least 1/2-inch margins on
all four sides. Single or double-sided
copies are accepted. Text is preferable
but legible photos are acceptable
as well. Please consider.
- Legibility: Copies
should be clean and clearly legible.
Dittos or pencil written copies
are not accepted, as they reproduce
very poorly. If the documents being
submitted are from a book or journal,
please provide the primary source
rather than copies, as a higher
quality file will be achieved.
Process
- Faculty members turn the course
materials to the circulation desk
in the library either electronically
or walk in.
- Materials that are not already
available in electronic format are
scanned and converted to Adobe PDF.
- Students access the materials via Blackboard by clicking on the eReserves menu choice for each course.

We will get your materials up for
your students as quickly as we can.
The earlier you can provide us with
materials the sooner we can process
and upload it.
- How many sources can I
place in an
eReserves?
eReserves are designed to provide
